Dear Supporting Churches and Praying Friends:
II Timothy 2:13, ‘If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself'.
Our pastor, Dr. Mike Allison, recently shared this verse with Pilar and I, and God has used it to be a great encouragement in our lives. Even when my faith fails, which sadly it does from time to time, my God will remain faithful, He cannot deny Himself! What a great promise!
The summer has been slow and hot, and when I say hot, I mean VERY HOT!! We do have a portable A/C unit that we keep in the living room of our home and fans in the other rooms, but when you are over 100 every day for a whole month, you don´t have much choice except to sweat. One night in the end of July, I got out of bed to check the temperature, because it was just too hot to sleep, and it was 93º F at 2:00 in the morning!!! Praise God that the first days of August have cooled off to the high 90´s, but please pray as I try to get the A/C at the church fixed this week.
June and July we were able to host 3 groups that came from the Sates. It was a special blessing to the work here because two of those 3 groups brought us Spanish speaking workers and we were able to knock many doors. It would have taken us months to knock the doors that were visited in one week. Once again we were reminded of the hardness of the people here in Granada and the great need of for prayer this city. We would ask you to consider praying in a special way for the work here and even plan a mission trip. We can use Spanish or non Spanish speaking people as there are many ways we can present the gospel to people here. It is a blessing for us because it helps us much in the work, and it will be a blessing to you as you would be able to experience, first hand mission work. If you would like to plan a trip to Granada, or would like more information about it, please let us know.
August is the month for vacations in Spain and as you walk through our city of Granada it seems as if more than half of the residents have left for the month. Even with the slow month we Praise the Lord for a few visitors we have had the last 3 Sundays. Three weeks ago we had a visit from Larry and Dalena, a pastor and his wife from Texas, who are in Granada for 5 weeks. Dalena is here for 5 weeks of Spanish classes and it has been a real blessing getting to meet them and fellowship together. Then last week, Pilar´s sister and family (Belén, Manolo and daughters) came to spend 1 week with us. They both made a salvation decision many years ago, but have been out of church for several years. It was a blessing to have them in the services with us, and from the comments they made, God is working in their hearts. Pray for them to follow through and to get involved in one of the churches that is close to them in Madrid. Also last Sunday we had 4 visitors. 3 of them are here for 1 month because of the college though, but we praise God from bringing them our way. The other visitor was Wilson, Lucio´s son. Lucio is the man that got saved in our church about a year ago and then had to move shortly after because of work. This was Wilson´s first visit to the church.
A praise is that with the crisis all the housing was going down and we were considering moving to save some money. We were checking into houses but decided to talk to our landlord about the possibility of lowering our rent. Praise God he agreed and went down 100 euros ($145 a month!).
Please continue to remember in prayer those that we have mentioned in the last letters: Isabel, Maria Luisa, Pilar and Ernesto. Also, remember Pilar´s father, Francisco, as well as her brother and sisters in your prayers-all for salvation.
Again, thank you so much for your prayers and sacrifice. We know that many of you are sacrificing so that we can be here; it is humbling to be God´s missionaries and your missionaries.
In Christ´s service,
Matthew, Pilar, Kayla, Nicole, and Noelia
