Dear Supporting Churches and Praying Friends:

Psalms 62:8, ‘Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us.  Selah.'

In our last prayer letter I mentioned a little of the discouragement that was beginning to settle into our hearts.  Yes, we know that the work in Spain requires much patience; but it is very hard to stay positive everyday in the ministry when you feel that it may be months, even years before you see real results.  But God is faithful and He has been that refuge for us, and He has used so many of you to remind us that we are not in this alone.  We can´t thank you enough for your prayers!  We have received numerous emails of encouragement and promised prayer.  One specific day in February, our email was flooded with promises of prayer from members of a supporting church in GA.  Thank you so much for being a real part of the ministry here; it is so true that we need your prayer support just as much as the financial support!

Through all of these times God has been faithful and we have not had 1 service where we were alone.  In the month of March we have had 6 visitors.  One of the visitors was a man in his 80´s named Manuel.  He had gotten saved back in the 60´s, before freedom of religion in Spain, and had started a few churches.  He was in Granada to visit his daughter and said that he came to our church because the other ‘christian' churches in Granada weren´t faithful to the Bible.  Some of the other visitors were Nancy and Rosa, that are here from Mexico.  Nancy is here to work and Rosa is only here for a short time to visit Nancy.  Both are already saved and stopped in for the services.  Also a German lady named Susan, who was only here for 2 weeks of Spanish classes, came to the both services.  She is from a good Baptist church in Germany and didn´t want to spend a Sunday out of church even though she was in a different country.  What faithfulness to God!!

On 22 March, along with Susan and Lauren, we had 2 visitors in a young lady from El Salvador named Sarai and Maria Luisa who is from Granada.  Maria Luisa had a son who died 7 years ago and has not been emotionally well since then.  The doctors have her on a daily dosage of valium to help with the anxiety that she has.

In all of the story that I am about to share, we can clearly see the hand of God at work!  It appears that Maria Luisa´s son was a Christian and had shared many Bible verses with her before he passed away from a strange illness while in his 20´s.  Maria Luisa had been wanting to find a Christian church for a long time, because of her son´s testimony, and just recently met Sarai through a mutual friend.  Sarai had just moved to Spain and was looking for a good church (and found us through our website) and then found out of Maria Luisa´s desire for a church.  Maria Luisa told us that she was so excited about going to church that on Saturday night she forgot to take her valium.  Then Sunday morning she was up early because she was excited about church.  She came to church with her son´s Bible and Pilar was able to sit down with her and use her own son´s Bible to lead her to the Lord!  She is very excited and full of questions about the Bible and about the verses of assurance of salvation that her son had underlined in his Bible.  Pilar visited her 3 days later and Maria Luisa told her that she was just so happy that she hadn´t needed to take any of the valium.  She has been telling her friends that she has found real peace and that the only book that has all of the answers is the BIBLE.  To God be the glory!!

PRAYER REQUESTS:

  • For Maria Luisa as she grows in the Lord (we have begun Bible studies with her). Also remember her other 2 sons, David and Samuel, they are both unsaved and she has a great burden for them now

  • For a special service that we are planning for 5 April. The Contreras family, whom we worked with in Gijón, will be here and I have invited many of the guys from football to come.

Again, thank you so much for your prayers and sacrifice.  We know that many of you are sacrificing so that we can be here; it is humbling to be God´s missionaries and your missionaries.

In Christ´s service,

Matthew, Pilar, Kayla, Nicole, and Noelia
