Hello from Southern Spain!! We have been very busy since our arrival on July 18th. God has been blessing us tremendously. Although we had anticipated some difficulties adjusting to the time and culture, it seems as though we have lived in Spain all of our lives.
We were very excited to be able to participate in the Starks last service in Gijon. God used them in a special way there. It was a bittersweet service for the people; as the Contreras had just returned from furlough, but Matthew, Pilar, and the girls were leaving. While we were in Northern Spain we had the opportunity to visit my grandparents, and were able to share the gospel with them. Unfortunately, my grandmother says she is too old to be changing religions. I told her I was not trying to change her religion but showing her the way to heaven. Please pray for them and the rest of my family; it seems God is softening some of their hearts. Many of them now wait at the table to bless the food and some have shown repeated interest in attending church services.
We saw many exciting things during the couple of weeks we spent in Madrid. God provided us with a car that was completely free. My grandfather had purchased a newer car and allowed me to have his old car. It took us several days to get all the paperwork together and transferred to my name, but praise God for His provision.
We had the opportunity to attend church in Azuqueca de Henares while in Madrid. Bro Jonathan Lyons, the pastor there, gave me the opportunity to take part in the services. I was able to play the piano, preach, and Ashley and I also sang. Sundays have been somewhat different for us. My family was so accustomed to being at church all day on Sunday back in the United States that it has been a big change now having a break in between morning and evening services. I also had a job interview in Madrid regarding a position teaching English here in Granada, for a well-known English Academy. The company does not currently have much business in the city of Granada, so I am continuing to look for a job.
We arrived in Granada on August 4th, and have been working to complete all of our necessary paperwork. Today, Ashley and I went to apply for Ashley's residency. We prayed together before we went to the window that God would work and everything would be processed smoothly. All of the paperwork was fine, however the lady told us that it would take approximately two months for everything to be approved. I asked her if it would be possible to get the residency a little quicker so Ashley can start receiving medical care for her pregnancy. The lady took my phone number and said she would call me so we could pick up her residency card next week. God worked in a great way!!
We are very excited about starting this new church in Granada. We know it is going to take a great work of God to start a revival in this country. We trust that if we as Christians live holy lives and seek God's power great things will happen. Please pray for us as this new work is started. Here are some prayer requests:
•· Pray that God would do a great work in the city of Granada and that we would be yielded to whatever he wants us to do.
•· Pray that God would provide an affordable apartment that we can rent.
•· Pray that God would provide me with a job to support my family, with a schedule appropriate for the work of the ministry.
•· Pray for Ashley and the little baby.
•· Pray for my family that God would continue to work in their hearts.
Thank you again for your prayers and support.
In Christ,
The Puente Family
