NEWS. . . . During the months of August and September there have been many that have visited. Daniel, a German who has moved to Gijón for work, has come regularly. Daniel also brought his friend Miguel who was attending regularly but has just recently moved. Also, an older woman named Pili has been attending. She received a tract in her mailbox about a year ago and held on to it. She is already saved and has been a delightful blessing. Before she leaves she always tells us, “if it is okay, I will come back next week”.
There has also been a new lady named Leonor coming to the Friday ladies meetings. Please pray
for her and her husband as they are meeting in their home instead of being faithful to a local church; they need much instruction from the Word of God.
Although Chris remains faithful, Rosa, Edit, and Clemeide have missed many services of late—pray for their faithfulness.
I have had the blessing to be preaching now every Sunday evening. Thank you for your prayers as I learn the language better. For those of you who understand spanish you will get a laugh from this—last night as I preached I said to notice verse “fourteen”, which in spanish is “catorce”, but I said “diecicuatro” which is literally “ten and four”. If you can’t laugh at yourself when you are learning a language, then you will never progress!
UPCOMING EVENTS. . . .As school has now started up in full swing here, we have much planned for the fall:
- Kid’s Club—in the past, parents have forbidden their children to come to our Friday “Kid’s Club” so we are trying to find new ways to present it. Spaniards are very big on workshops to help improve themselves so we are going to try each “Kid’s Club” meeting with a portion of english, music, art and story—all with a Bible foundation. Pray that God will give us wisdom and insight into this matter and that parents will allow their children to attend.
- 7 Week Series—We are planning a 7 week series to start the beginning of November and finish right before our Christmas cantata. It will be a series of questions: “Who is God?”, “Why am I here?”, etc. We plan to post these on our building and also print flyers that will be passed out weekly to cover the title that will be preached on that Sunday. There is a lot of confusion concerning religion, but we preach the one true source with the answers. Pray that God will use this to reach people for salvation.
- Youth Rally—The youth in Spain are in a very sad shape. From the time they are 14 they pass their time at the discoteques where alcohol and drugs are easily available. They are growing up with no morals as their parents care only about their ability to make free choices. Pray that we can work out the details for a youth rally with a 3-on-3 basketball theme. They desperately need someone to reach out to them, pray that they will come out for this rally and for God’s power during the preaching time.
INSIGHT & PRAYER. . . .Faithfulness has been a battle for many of our church folk. Pray as we try to instill in them the need to be faithful to God and to His house.
Pray also for Alejandro, a young man we met on door-to-door. He listened intently to the plan of salvation and said that he would like to have that assurance. When we told him that he could pray right then, at his door, he was surprised to the point that he decided to wait. Although the majority of young people have nothing to do with the catholic church, their conditioning and mindset are still closely tied. To be able to pray directly to God at any place and at any time is a wonderful privilege that many have trouble grasping.
As we expand our children’s outreach we are looking for puppets and musical instruments (ex. bells, items for small children). If you or your church has any that are no longer used—we will put them to good use! You could send them directly to us here in Spain, to our home church, or give a special offering for the purchase of those items. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Continue to pray also for the US dollar to strengthen in relation to world currencies. Since our last letter the dollar has dropped another $.07 and $.12 since we first arrived (a loss of $120 on a transfer of $1000). It is at $1.43, but expected to drop more.
Thank you so much for your prayers and faithful financial support, we couldn’t be here without your help. May God bless you and your churches.
